Keeping it
like day one.
Film is easier to look after than paint, but it does not forgive two things: pressure on the edges and brushes in the car wash.
The first week
The adhesive needs time to reach full bond. Do not wash the car for seven days after collection and keep it out of heavy rain if you can.
Washing by hand
Two buckets, a soft mitt, pH neutral shampoo. Work top down and rinse the mitt often so grit is not dragged across the film. Dry with a clean microfibre towel or with air.
Pressure washers
Allowed, but keep at least thirty centimetres of distance, stay under eighty bar and never aim along an edge. That is where the film ends and where water can get underneath.
Car washes
Brushes leave the same fine scratches on film as they do on paint, and on matte film they show up as shiny patches. Textile washes without brushes are acceptable, by hand is better.
Insects, bird droppings, tree sap
The sooner they come off the better. They are acidic and attack the surface. Soften with warm water, then lift off. Never rub dry.
Matte stays matte
No wax and no polish on matte film. Both create shiny patches that cannot be taken back out. Matte surfaces have their own sealants.
